1. Introduction
Local Panda is a Chrome extension that helps you find direct booking alternatives for tours and activities listed on travel marketplace websites. It currently supports Viator, GetYourGuide, Klook, TripAdvisor, Tiqets, Civitatis, Musement, and Airbnb Experiences. This privacy policy explains what data the extension collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
2. Information We Collect
Activity page data. When you visit a supported travel marketplace page, Local Panda reads information from that page — including the activity title, price, URL, and relevant page content. This data is sent to our server so we can search for direct booking alternatives on your behalf.
Feedback (optional). If you choose to submit feedback through the extension, we collect your rating and comment. You may optionally provide an email address, but it is not required.
Local diagnostic data. The extension stores debug and diagnostic information in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device.
Exchange rate cache. Currency exchange rates are cached locally in your browser. This data never leaves your device.
Newsletter email (optional). If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter through the extension, we collect your email address. We use it solely to send you travel content, product updates, and saving tips. You can unsubscribe at any time.
What we do not collect. We do not collect cookies, browsing history, personal information, analytics data, tracking pixels, or advertising data.
3. How We Use Information
- Finding direct booking alternatives. Activity page data is sent to our server to search for the same tour or activity available directly from the operator, potentially at a lower price.
- Improving the extension. Feedback you voluntarily submit helps us understand what is working well and what we can improve.
4. Third-Party Services
Perplexity AI. Our server forwards search queries (derived from the activity page data) to Perplexity AI to find direct booking alternatives. Perplexity AI processes these queries according to its own privacy policy. No data is stored on our server after the response is returned to you.
Firebase / Firestore. If you submit feedback, it is stored in Google Firebase Firestore. Aggregate, anonymous feedback statistics (such as total counts) are also stored in Firestore.
Frankfurter API. The extension fetches daily currency exchange rates from the Frankfurter API (frankfurter.app) to display prices in your local currency. No personal data is sent — only a read-only request for current exchange rates.
5. Data Storage & Security
- On your device. Diagnostic data and exchange rate caches are stored locally using Chrome's storage API and never leave your browser.
- In transit. All data sent from the extension to our server is transmitted over HTTPS.
- Server-side. Activity page data is not stored on our server. It is used only to process your request and is discarded immediately after. Feedback you submit is stored in Firestore.
6. Your Choices
- You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored data.
- Submitting feedback is entirely optional.
- Providing an email address in the feedback form is optional.
- If you subscribe to our newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email.
7. Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the effective date at the top will be revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
